Rodrigo Vera Lama was admitted to study law at the University of Concepción (UdeC) in 2001, finishing in 2005 located within the top 10% of his class, for then obtain, with highest distinction (Summa Cum Laude), the degree of Licentiate in Legal and Social Sciences (LL. B.) in 2007, getting on the Supreme Court, the same year, the professional license of Lawyer. During 2015 and 2016 he studied Master in Criminal Law (LL. M.) at the University Catholic of the Santísima Concepción (UCSC), approving this postgraduate in 2017.
From 2008 until his resignation as Army Officer in 2014, he served in the position of Examining Magistrate of a Military Court at Angol city that was part of the Judiciary. In this activity of Judge did, among other things, the direction and execution of highly complex criminal inquiries related to the political - social conflict mapuche present in the Province of Malleco - Region of Araucanía, and to the institutional safety of Army and Carabineros (police). Currently he is dedicated to the free exercise of the legal profession.
He is author of several academic publications on Criminal and Criminal Procedure Law and Intelligence, and has also been invited teaching exhibitor at the chair of Intelligence of the National Academy of Political and Strategic Studies (ANEPE) of the Ministry of National Defence.
He has been distinguished by the University of Concepción with the Teacher Julio Parada Benavente Award, given to the author of the best thesis in Constitutional Law approved in 2006: "El Sistema de Inteligencia del Estado a la luz del Derecho" (The State Intelligence System in the light of the Law).
